Lights, Camera, Action!
Inspired by the film classes I took in college, my Spanish for Heritage Speakers classes learn about careers in film and the characteristics that define specific movie genres. I created these materials as a pre-cursor to discussing the presence of stereotypes, in particular those about Latinos, in the media.
Students enjoy learning about actores de doblaje (the actors who dub movies from English to Spanish), artistas foley (the people who add everyday sound effects to films), and analyzing movie scenes based on their genre.
Surprisingly, their favorite part was analyzing a scene from It en espaƱol!
